Product Care 101

A few simple habits will keep your windows and doors looking great, performing well,
and covered under warranty for years ahead.

Clean Frames and Sashes Regularly

A little upkeep goes a long way. Wipe down frames with mild soap and water every 3–6 months — a soft cloth is all you need. Avoid harsh chemicals, as they can affect your warranty. Wood product owners should also watch for refinishing needs over time.

Clean Glass Properly

For streak-free results, use an ammonia-free glass cleaner with a soft microfiber cloth. If your windows have low-e or specialty coatings, avoid abrasive pads or razor blades — these can cause permanent damage to the glass surface and affect your home’s energy efficiency.

Inspect and Maintain Weather Stripping

Each season, take a quick look at the weather stripping around your windows and doors. Cracks, gaps, or areas that have lost their seal are worth addressing promptly — good weather stripping keeps drafts and moisture out and your home comfortable year-round.

Protect Frames from Impact and Abrasion

If you’re doing renovation work, landscaping, or any project near your windows and doors, it’s a good idea to protect the frames from accidental bumps or scratches. Most warranties don’t cover cosmetic damage from outside sources, so a little prevention is worth it.

Avoid Unapproved Painting or Modifications

It can be tempting to refresh your frames, but painting over vinyl or applying non-approved coatings can cause warping — especially with darker colors. Any modifications not approved by Lumina may affect your warranty. When in doubt, give us a call.
