Product Care 101
A few simple habits will keep your windows and doors looking great, performing well,
and covered under warranty for years ahead.
Clean Frames and Sashes RegularlyA little upkeep goes a long way. Wipe down frames with mild soap and water every 3–6 months — a soft cloth is all you need. Avoid harsh chemicals, as they can affect your warranty. Wood product owners should also watch for refinishing needs over time.
Clean Glass ProperlyFor streak-free results, use an ammonia-free glass cleaner with a soft microfiber cloth. If your windows have low-e or specialty coatings, avoid abrasive pads or razor blades — these can cause permanent damage to the glass surface and affect your home’s energy efficiency.
Inspect and Maintain Weather StrippingEach season, take a quick look at the weather stripping around your windows and doors. Cracks, gaps, or areas that have lost their seal are worth addressing promptly — good weather stripping keeps drafts and moisture out and your home comfortable year-round.
Protect Frames from Impact and Abrasion
If you’re doing renovation work, landscaping, or any project near your windows and doors, it’s a good idea to protect the frames from accidental bumps or scratches. Most warranties don’t cover cosmetic damage from outside sources, so a little prevention is worth it.
Avoid Unapproved Painting or Modifications
It can be tempting to refresh your frames, but painting over vinyl or applying non-approved coatings can cause warping — especially with darker colors. Any modifications not approved by Lumina may affect your warranty. When in doubt, give us a call.
